"I use many different methods to create a dialog between past and present. Sometimes that means building a new piece from an old work."

In Michael's words: My method of working in paint and stone is akin to a jazz player improvising on a motif. A structure is often suggested by a sketch or by a drawing directly on the canvas or stone. After that beginning, however, all bets are off when the brush touches the canvas or the chisel hits the stone. The first stroke prompts the next.
Michael has been making music and art since before he can remember. His works are represented in collections across the US along with several locations abroad. Michael continues to work daily in his home and studio in Bloomington, Indiana.
Ruth Koomler is an abstract artist living near Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her work has been exhibited around the region in solo shows, art festivals, galleries and museums where she has won many awards. She is a member of the Orchard Gallery of Fine Art. Ruth paints with encaustic as well as acrylic. In addition to painting, Ruth has also taught encaustic to the students at Canterbury Highschool for the past four years as well as workshops that she teaches in her studio.
Artist Statement: I began drawing classes about 20 years ago. As I learned I gradually added oil and acrylic paints and began experimenting with different medium types - charcoal, oils, acrylic, pastels and sculpture. Most recently I began working with mixed media using a little bit of everything in each picture to create mixed media works of art. My artwork is varied, from portraits, figurative, florals, to the abstract. I like to paint and draw using an impressionistic approach. Everything I paint I want to give the viewer an impression of what's happening, certainly not a photocopy of a subject. Painting with others in a workshop setting helps me stay open to change and learn to appreciate other interpretations. I attend ay least two or three workshops a year.
